It’s hard to imagine that just a year ago I was clinging to a newly published book with no clue as to what was expected of me in the marketing minefield. I had heard of Twitter, of course, but had never had my interest piqued enough to find out what it was all about. Face Book – that was just for keeping in touch with friends and family – wasn’t it? And as far as putting my persona ‘out there’, that just set the alarm bells jangling, like I’d hit the panic button!
However, with my publishers pushing from behind with press releases, starred reviews, social media promotions and web site development (www.carolyngriffinauthor.com), and friends and family drawing me along with faith and support, I finally started to emerge from my shell and develop a platform that would reach out to potential readers who share my love of Celtic myth and legend.
At the end of July, I was lucky enough to be invited to promote my book, ‘Alex and the Druids’ Eclipse’, by doing a reading at a local library. My audience was a group of school children of varying ages who sat patiently listening to my tale of Alex who, accompanied by a faithful wolf, battles haggish witches and narrowly escapes death as he strives to recapture a lost cauldron that will restore life to fallen warriors. It was super cool to see everyone using their amazing crayoning abilities to color and create sketches of Blythe, the magical wolf. A huge thank you to Shannon, the awesome librarian of the Western Manitoba Regional Library, who provided this amazing opportunity.
Yesterday, Saturday November 3, 2018, I was privileged to be asked to sign copies of my book at Coles Bookstore (Chapters-Indigo) located in the Brandon Shoppers Mall. I spent a phenomenal afternoon in the company of my friend Sheila, who encourages and supports my writing in so many great ways, and I met many wonderful people. Thank you to Chelsea (Manager), her staff and everyone who stopped by my table!
Alex’s second adventure, once again embroiling him in the myth and legend of Cornwall, will be released later in 2019 and I will be posting snippets and pictures, as Alex finds imaginative and magical ways to survive in the supernatural ‘Other-world’ and defend himself from its hidden dangers, throughout the coming months.
